TVA Overnight Guest Policy

Procedures and limitations for allowing overnight guests in a TVA residence.

Updated June 3, 2022

1. Purpose

This policy allows residents of Temple View Apartments (TVA) to host overnight guests while providing a safe and secure environment for all who reside in married-student and family on-campus housing.

2. Policy

TVA residents may host up to two approved overnight guests in their apartment for a maximum of 14 nights per semester for a fee of $30 per guest, per night. Overnight guests must be approved by the Housing Operations office before the guest's arrival. Upon arrival, the resident and the guest must sign in at the Housing Office Building before entering the apartment.

Resident Responsibilities

Residents are expected to help their guests understand and fulfill their responsibility under the Residential Living Standards and the Honor Code. The guest must follow all Residential Life and university policies, specifically quiet hours, dress and grooming standards, and the Honor Code. Residents will be held responsible for their guest’s actions.

Additional Guest Rules

Include but not limited to:

A guest may only stay in TVA for a maximum of 14 nights per semester and cannot be guests in multiple apartments over the 14-night limit.

Guests that are minors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by their legal guardian or have documented permission from their legal guardian.

Guests may not be in the apartment without the resident present.

Guests may not use laundry and other university facilities without the resident present.

Guests – Single Parent Residence

To align with the university Honor Code as well as for safety, liability and privacy, overnight guests of the opposite sex are not permitted in the apartments of single parents without an accompanied guest of the same gender as the resident.

Exceptions are made for immediate family.

Guest’s Animals

Guest's animals are not permitted in the dwelling. There is a $100 per animal per night charge for unauthorized animals and rental agreements may be terminated. Exceptions are made for service animals; this does not include a guest's emotional support animal.

Enforcement

BYU–Hawaii reserves the right to cancel a guest's stay and ask the guest to leave if the guest or resident breaks any Residential Living or university policies. Residents who participate in accommodating a guest over the 14-night limit or host an unapproved guest will constitute a breach of contract and will incur monetary charges, ineligibility to renew a housing contract for TVA, and current or future rental agreements may be terminated.
