Temple View Apartments or TVA

BYU–Hawaii's Temple View Apartments, or TVA as it is commonly known, accommodate more than 300 student families who live on campus near the Laie Hawaii Temple.

Due to the high prices of rent in Hawaii, the limited number of apartments available, and a large number of married students interested in living on campus, TVA is in high demand.

Policies and Procedures

Application

Students may apply for TVA up to a year in advance and do not have to be married to apply for TVA. Students are advised to apply at least two semesters ahead of the desired check-in semester to have a higher chance of being invited to live in TVA.

Students admitted to the university may apply to TVA at any time through the Housing Portal. There is a $50 non-refundable application fee due at the time of application. New incoming married students should apply, and then make arrangements to live off-campus before arriving.

How to Apply

  1. Sign in to the Housing Portal.
  2. Select "Secure Housing."
  3. Select "TVA"
  4. Select "Waitlist Application."
  5. Complete the form and pay the fee.

MAKE SURE YOUR APPLICATION IS COMPLETE!

There are two parts to the TVA Application: the $50 non-refundable application fee and the form. Both must be complete for your application to be complete. Your application completion date is determined by when you complete both the form and payment. Your application will be sorted by that date along with waitlist priorities.

Once your application is complete, you will be in the system. You are not on the waitlist. There is no waitlist until the deadline for that desired check-in semester has passed. See the 'Waitlist' section for more information.

Invitees will begin receiving notification of a pending TVA assignment 30 days before the start of the semester. Housing Operations will communicate with applicants through their BYU–Hawaii email, so checking your email regularly is extremely important.

Please ensure that you are meeting all of the requirements to be eligible to remain a priority on the waitlist.

Maintaining Your Application

Register for Classes

To be considered eligible for your desired semester, you must be registered as a full-time student for that semester. You will not be considered and are not eligible for the waitlist until you are registered.

Update Application

Each application is responsible for keeping their application up to date. It is important that all the information submitted on your application is accurate. Inaccurate or falsified information will result in the denial of an application and postpone acceptance to TVA.

To update an application, select 'Update Application' on the TVA Applicant landing page.

To review an application, select 'View Application' on the TVA Applicant landing page.

Security Deposit

If you are accepted into TVA, a $300 security deposit will be due at the time of invitation. The security deposit must be paid by credit card online during the application process. Please save up for this expense before you are invited.

Temple View Apartment Rates

The total amount of the rent will be placed on the primary resident's account. Housing Operations does not split the charge between spouses.

New TVA check-ins: Because students do not have an exact assignment until check-in, the rent will be charged to the primary resident’s student account within two business days of check-in.

**Plus Apartments**

The 'plus' apartments provide additional amenities such as ceiling fans, a microwave, and washer/dryer in each apartment. Two bedroom apartments have separate living and dining areas. These ‘plus’ apartments have a higher rental rate.

Continuing Residents and Semester Breaks

Fall residents who renew their contract or book a room for the winter semester are required to book the winter break also and pay any associated fees. There are no exceptions. The university does not offer a checkout option for continuing residents. Residents who have a winter booking may reside and/or leave their belongings in their rooms during this break. Residents who do not reside in the room or who check out of the room but are returning for the next semester are responsible for the winter break fee.

Winter residents who renew their contract or book a room for the spring semester are permitted to reside and/or leave their belongings in their rooms during the days between the winter and spring semesters.
