Step 1 - Determine Your Student Type
There are three types of single students when it comes to housing. Read carefully because the application process is different for each group.
Work-study students (IWORK or Hukilau) will automatically get an email to reserve a room. If you have not yet received an email, please apply to the waitlist on step 3.
New non-work-study students are students not on a work-study program and have not lived on campus before. These students should proceed with the steps below. Please apply as soon as possible, as on-campus housing is limited.
Returning students (those who have lived in on-campus housing before and have taken a leave of absence, served a mission, or gone on an internship), will be directed to sign up for the waitlist as seen in Step 3.
Step 2: Get Familiar With Important Dates, Deadlines and Prices
If you have successfully reserved a room, you will receive a confirmation email. Make sure to update your personal profile, select a meal plan, complete a roommate matching survey, and sign your hale contract.
Remember!
If you have applied to the waitlist, by the time you receive an invitation, you must be registered as a full-time student (with at least one face-to-face credit) for the application semester or your waitlist position will be forfeited. Waitlisted classes do not count toward the credit total. Make sure you have no holds that would keep you from registering for classes. Read more about waitlist procedures.
If you are offered a spot in on-campus housing, your offered room type will be based first on your eligibility and then on availability. Because housing is so limited, your ideal room and room type may not be available.
Step 4 - Visit Our FAQ's Page
You most likely will have specific questions about certain aspects of on-campus housing. Visit our Frequently Asked Questions page, where most of our common questions are answered. If you don't find an answer to your question there, feel free to contact us at housing@byuh.edu.

On-campus housing options are limited. It is important for students to be informed of the proper processes used to secure on-campus housing and of the appropriate deadlines. Students that do not engage in the correct process by the appropriate deadlines will have a lower likelihood of being able to secure on-campus housing.
Single student housing options are limited. Students wanting to secure on-campus housing can apply for the single on-campus housing waitlist on the Housing Portal. Refer to the open dates above.

Credit Requirement
To be eligible for a room invitation, you must be registered as a full-time student (with at least one face-to-face credit) for the application semester. Waitlisted classes do not count toward the credit total.
You do not have to register at the time of application to the waitlist, but you must be registered by the time of the invitation. We understand you cannot register for classes until your open date, but we want you to be prepared to register as soon as possible.
Make sure you have no holds on your account that would prevent you from registering.
New international students required to take an EIL test before registering will be registered in a placeholder class that will qualify as full-time credits.
Remember!
Waitlisted classes do not count toward the credit total.
If you are below full-time credits because you are graduating, request a Reduced Course Load Form through HANDSHAKE experiences. For more information, visit the Reduced Course Load Request webpage.
Invitation Process
The waitlist will be sorted by the following criteria:
Credit requirement (yes or no).
Sorting group.
Date of application.
If you meet the criteria and there is availability in a room you are eligible for, you will be sent an invitation via your BYUH email. Please make sure your BYUH email is working BEFORE the invitation period. For email issues, please fill out an IT service request.
Invitations are sent out weekly. Once students receive an email, they will have access to accept the offer online on the Housing Portal for 48 hours. This access to accept is not available to a student until they have received an email invitation.
We will continue to send invitations each week if there are any availabilities.
Remember!
Invitations are sent to your BYUH email address.
You will only have 48 hours to respond, so check your emails regularly!
If you miss the deadline to accept your invitation but are still interested in housing, you will need to re-apply. You will have a new date.
Application Fee
All interested students must pay a non-refundable $50 hale application fee to apply for single-student on-campus housing.
The application fee will be charged to your student account within seven business days once you have signed a contract. Once posted to your account, you may make a payment online.
To make a payment, please follow the instructions on the How to Make a Payment Online page. Unpaid fees will result in a hold on your account that could prevent registration for classes.
Off-Campus Housing
Students looking for off-campus housing must find and secure contracts on their own.
BYU–Hawaii has different meal plan options available for all student lifestyles, both on and off campus. All meal plans have a combination of meals at the Banyan Dining Hall and flex dollars.
