Moving In
Married On-Campus Housing
Scheduling Check-In
TVA invitees can submit a request for a check-in time on the acceptance form. The request is reviewed by TVA staff and scheduled based on availability.
Residents must check in within the designated check-in period stated in their contract. If residents do not arrive at the assigned check-in time without prior notice, they will be reassigned a new date and time. Walk-ins are not accommodated.
Assignment
Assignments are made based on availability at the time of check-in. Exact apartment location is provided at check-in.
Preferences for apartment size are taken into account when available but are not guaranteed. Specific apartment requests cannot be considered.
Furnishings
TVA apartments are furnished with a stove, refrigerator, dining table, four dining chairs, a queen-size bed, a dresser, and a sofa. Twin beds are provided in second bedrooms as needed based on the number and ages of dependents.
Plus apartments provide additional amenities such as a microwave and Washer/Dryer in each apartment. 2 Bedrooms apartments have separate living and dining areas. Plus apartments have a higher rental rate. Check Housing Prices for rental rates.
Students may bring personal decorative items. Large furniture items are discouraged, as they may limit space. All large items must be approved by the Housing office prior to check-in.
BYU–Hawaii furnishings may not be removed, and apartments must comply with fire safety guidelines that require clear passageways and exits.
Residents have compiled a list of suggested items for the first month in TVA. (See suggested items)
Handbook
It is important to familiarize yourself with the Housing handbook.
TVA Check-in Checklist
ID Card
Both spouses must have a BYU–Hawaii issued ID card. If a spouse does not already have an ID card, they must obtain one within one month from the date of check-in. Residents who fail to obtain an ID card within the required timeframe will not be eligible to renew their contract or remain in TVA longer than one semester. Temporary keys will not be issued after the deadline. If the spouse is not a student, please see HR ID Card Requests instructions.
Marital Status
Residents and their spouse must have their marital status listed as married with the university. To verify marital status, residents should log in to the myBYUH Student Center, navigate to Personal Information, and select Demographic Information. If the status is incorrect, residents must update it from Single to Married by completing the Personal Information Change Form and submitting a marriage certificate to the Registrar’s Office.
Student Medical Benefits
A change in marital status or dependents may affect medical coverage. Students should contact the Student Medical Benefits office by phone at 808-675-3512 or by email at studentmedbenefit@byuh.edu to ensure proper coverage and update elections if necessary.
Directions to Campus
Students are responsible for arranging their own transportation to campus. BYU–Hawaii is located on the North Shore of Oahu at 55-220 Kulanui Street, Laie, HI 96762.
Check-In Process
Students must bring a valid photo ID to complete the check-in process. An envelope containing the apartment assignment, map, and keys is provided at check-in.
Check in Location and Hours
- Office Hours: Monday–Friday, 2 – 4:30 PM, students check in at the Housing Office. (Closed Weekends and Holidays)
- After Hours: Check in at the BYU–Hawaii Security Office.
- Residents must complete the full check-in process at the Housing Office on the next business day.
Room Condition Reports
Room Condition Reports (RCRs) document the condition of the room and furnishings at move-in and protect both the student and the University.
Residents receive the report at check-in and must return the completed form to the Housing office within 48 hours.
The same report is used by staff at move-out to assess any new damage or missing items. Careful completion of the report helps prevent unnecessary charges and keeps housing spaces well-maintained for future residents.
