Apply to the Hales

On-campus housing for single students are called hales or "house" in Hawaiian. There are 13 hales with varying housing types ranging from dormitory-style to apartment-style housing.

Step 1: Apply

1. Log on to the Housing Portal.
2. On your dashboard, click 'Apps and Forms'.
3. Find the Hale application you would like to apply to and click 'Start Application'.
4. Review your profile. Request edits if needed, then click 'Continue'.
5. Answer all required questions and click 'Complete'.
6. Confirm submission in the pop-up by clicking 'Submit'.

Your application is now submitted.

Step 2: Application under review

Your application will show as 'Under Review.' You can track your status anytime under 'Apps and Forms.' You can make changes to your application while it’s still under review.

What Happens Next?

Once reviewed, your application will be placed into a sorting group:

• Group 1: Work-study students (newly accepted or current).
• Group 2: Newly admitted students.
• Group 3: All other students (living on or off campus).

If you’re approved for on-campus housing, your room type will be assigned first by eligibility and then by availability:

• Apartment-style: reserved for upperclassmen
• Dorm-style: reserved for freshmen/first-year students
  

Timeline

• Groups 1 & 2: Invited to sign a contract as soon as applications open (room selection happens later).
• Group 3: Invited to sign a contract (based on availability) starting three months before the semester begins.

Step 3: Sign contract

If you are eligible and housing is available, you’ll get a notification to sign your contract. You’ll have 4 days to complete it.

1. Go to 'Apps and Forms' and click 'Manage' on your approved application.
2. Select 'Additional Docs'.
3. Under Docs to Sign, click 'Start Signing' under the contract.
4. Enter your ID in the pop-up and click 'Submit and Start Signing'.
5. Create and approve your signature.
6. Review the contract carefully — it’s legally binding.
7. Click 'Insert Signature' to sign and secure your housing.

Room Selection

Room selection is available during the Room Selection period. Applicants can select a room after signing a contract and application approval.
